2016 Nissan Titan XD Diesel

Engine

The 2016 Nissan TITANXD is powered by the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine; the superior machinery that balances power, performance, fuel economy and dependability which commenced development in 2007 and is now making waves on the market and setting new standards for what a pickup should be. The Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine which is exclusive to Nissan models boasts the firsttomarket Holset M2 twostage turbocharger allowing for uninterrupted acceleration and no turbo lag, resulting in flawless acceleration and continuous power boost right through the RPM range.

According to the Director of Product Planning and TITANXD Chief Product Specialist, Rich Miller, the strategy for the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine is to “center on better fuel economy” and to “deliver on the performance of a diesel engine” by creating an engine that always has more to give than what you ask for, never running out and hitting “the top of the torque curve or top of the peak”. Plus, the Cummins 5.0 V8 Turbo Diesel is lightweight, weighing half a ton but incredibly durable and truly powerful with the strength of an engine 50% larger. While traditional diesel engines are substantially heavier than their gas counterparts, the Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) block used in the new TITANXD eliminates weight but increases strength of structure. Every piece of the engine was carefully considered by Cummins to explore potential weight reduction to engineer a far lighter engine that increases fuel efficiency without sacrificing durability that is crucial to a heavyduty truck.

The 2016 Nissan TITAN’s Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine has the versatility of a vehicle intended for the daily commute during the week, but also has the functionality of a ready for anything powerhouse pickup truck, boasting 310 horsepower and 555 lb.ft. torque which puts the Nissan TITANXD in its own class of pickup truck, unparalleled in power for size of engine. Tough as the engine is, you don’t need to hear it. The Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine keeps vibration and noise in check, achieved by the use of the Bosch CP4.2 high pressure fuel pump which allows the Cummins to deliver fuel and create power using small bursts of the injector to gently move the piston over the cylinder wall. Even more impressive, the pump is timed with the combustion cycle to hide noise. Excessive noise is also eliminated by employing the use of composite valve covers on each cylinder head and mounting the two stage turbocharger, essentially wrapped inside the intake manifold and very low inside the valley. The Cummins 5.0 V8 Turbo Diesel engine is also extremely clean, transcending the now misconception that diesel must be dirty. The engine uses a particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction to keep everything clean running as well keep noise to a minimum.

But the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is more than lightweight, tough, and quiet. It also is a reliable engine that will get you where you need to go in the morning quickly and with fewer emissions, even when temperatures reach 25°F overnight thanks to the integrated ceramic glow plugs. New to the 5.0 Cummins, the ceramic glow plugs will last the life of the engine with no maintenance and require less current draw and reduce stress on the truck’s electrical system. According to Ric Kleine, the Vice President of Cummins Incorporated, Cummins and Nissan have “been working on [the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel] together for a period of time, [and ® have] had the time to really do it right”. And that they have; the 2016 Nissan TITANXDhas the engine that is setting brand new standards for trucks everywhere.

Towing

The power provided by the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine is enormous and complemented by the gooseneck hitch that is built right into the frame of the 2016 TITANXD that yields incredible stability by eliminating trailer sway. The truck has been tested to pull more than 5 tons, performing with complete confidence. The hitch ball is removable when you just need a flatbed.

Chassis

Nissan has engineered an allnew, highstrength steel frame and chassis to support the demands of the revamped TITANXD, which comes with some seriously impressive elements. The TITANXD sports a double front wishbone suspension system that adds comfort and improves how the vehicle handles. As for brakes, each wheel is equipped with heavyduty 14” ventilated and hydraulically boosted disc brakes designed to reduce shudder and improve the overall braking experience. The transmission that the Nissan TITANXD is outfitted with must be able to accommodate the sheer power that comes with the Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel engine, which is why the TITANXD is equipped with an AISIN 6 speed automatic transmission to satisfy the demands of the heavyduty truck that the Nissan TITANXD is.

Interior

Just like in the engine, everything in the interior of the Nissan TITANXD has been carefully considered and designed for the best experience possible. The interior is made to be comfortable, spacious, and functional with storage and power sources placed strategically that result in a thoughtful and usable design. Multiple options are offered to provide comfort and further functionality.
