2024 Nissan Z

Last year’s remake of the legendary Nissan Z confirmed to the motoring world and enthusiasts that sports cars are alive and well. The 2024 model year continues this reassurance by adding two new trims to the lineup. The NISMO trim builds on the company’s racing heritage by giving the Z a higher engine output and upgraded performance equipment. Nostalgia lovers will appreciate the Heritage Edition, honoring the original 1969 240Z. Celebrating the trendsetting sports car that arrived 55 years ago, this version will show off exclusive Sight Orange paint and other unique exterior treatments.

The 2024 Z’s beautiful coupe profile honors the original Z. It’s complemented by a state-of-the-art twin-turbo V6 engine and a suite of the latest advanced driver-assistance technologies. The two-seat cabin has a driver-centric cockpit and an advanced infotainment system.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2024 Z's core trim packages are called Sport and Performance, with the Heritage Edition and NISMO versions coming in later. The powerplant is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. It makes 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque for all but the NISMO, which is tuned to increase output to 420 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque.

Just like its predecessors, the 2024 Z is strictly rear-wheel drive. The Sport, Performance, and Heritage Editions are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, with an option for a nine-speed automatic transmission (which is standard with the NISMO). The fuel economy ratings for a Z with the manual transmission are 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. With an automatic, the 2024 Z is estimated to provide 19 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway (17 city/24 highway for the NISMO).

Standard Features

The Z’s base trim, the Sport, has everything you and your passenger will need to hit the road comfortably and conveniently, like automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, fabric upholstery, LED exterior lighting, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start. Its other equipment includes an eight-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, power side-view mirrors, dual USB ports, leather-wrapped surfaces (steering wheel, shift knob, and emergency brake handle), and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels with high-performance tires.

As the name implies, the Performance trim adds more capabilities, including Akebono brake calipers, larger vented disc brakes, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and launch control. Those with the six-speed manual transmission are upgraded with rev-matching for more precise shifting, while the automatic version adds GT-R-style paddle shifters. Some other standard features that are added to the Performance are chin and rear spoilers, aluminum-trimmed pedals, heated four-way power seats upholstered in leather surfaces with synthetic suede inserts, and 19-inch forged alloy wheels.

The NISMO version builds off the Performance trim by adding Recaro leather-trimmed seats with Alcantara inserts, trim-specific brake calipers (painted red), upgraded brake rotors, a NISMO-tuned suspension, reinforced body points, specialized aerodynamic treatments (front and rear fascia, side sills, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and rear spoiler), and a sport muffler. The Heritage Edition also starts with the Performance trim’s equipment list and adds an exclusive front fascia with rectangular grill openings, eight-spoke 19-inch wheels, and fender extensions at each corner. Striking exterior graphics also reinforce the Heritage Edition’s connection to the original Z.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Every 2024 Nissan Z is equipped with an array of the latest driver-assist technologies, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a driver alertness monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams. A set of airbags is standard as well, as are hill start assist, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Z’s pleasing cabin is designed around convenient access to a color infotainment touchscreen (8 inches in the Sport and 9 inches in the higher trims). The system is supported by Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and hands-free text messaging. Audio is channeled through a six-speaker sound system in the Sport and an eight-speaker Bose arrangement in the Performance and above. These higher trims also get navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and NissanConnect services.
