2025 Nissan Frontier

The Frontier has given midsized-pickup buyers a sensible choice since Nissan introduced it in 1997. This tough-as-nails truck is built body on frame for the highest durability. It offers the practicality and utility that pickup fans desire, with two cab styles and two bed sizes offered. The tried-and-true Frontier upholds the old adage about not fixing what isn’t broken: despite its nearly 30 years of existence, it has been redesigned only twice and is still just in its third generation.

For model year 2025, the Frontier looks a bit different, with a boxier front end, a revised front fascia, fresh wheel designs, and an attention-commanding new paint color called Afterburn Orange. Nissan has also added more tech features, expanding wireless smartphone connectivity to all but the base trim and giving the topmost trim, the SL, wireless phone charging and a surround-view monitor. Another improvement this time around is the Frontier’s higher towing capacity: it can now pull 7,150 pounds, which is 510 pounds more than the 2024 model could pull.

Trim Levels and Mechanical Details

Your five trim choices for the 2025 Frontier are the S, SV, PRO-X, PRO-4X, and SL. A 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine (310 horsepower and 281 lb.-ft. of torque) forms the powertrain with a nine-speed automatic transmission. A rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) is standard, with four-wheel drive (4WD) an option (as its name implies, the PRO-4X is 4WD only). The EPA has officially estimated the RWD Frontier’s fuel economy at 19 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the highway, which dips to 16 city/20 highway with 4WD. As mentioned above, the towing limit is 7,150 lb.; payload maxes out at 1,610 pounds.

Standard and Available Equipment

As the base trim, the S presents the expected cloth upholstery, plus manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split flip-up rear bench seat push-button start, a 7-inch multi-information display, four USB ports, a 12-volt power outlet, and remote keyless entry. The SV adds to that with a power driver’s seat with lumbar support, but it can be brought up another level with the optional SV Convenience Package (heated front seats, a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather, two 120-volt outlets, LED fog lights, and the Utili-track cargo system).

Driver-Assist Technology

Nissan’s acclaimed Safety Shield 360 technology bundle is standard on the ’25 Frontier. It consists of adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear parking sensors, reverse automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and driver attention alert. The PRO-X and PRO-4X can gain traffic sign recognition through the PRO Premium Package, while the Convenience Package for those trims will add a surround-view monitor. The SL gets those high-end features as standard equipment.

Staying Connected and Informed

While the entry-level S trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with plug-in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the others receive a 12.3-inch setup with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All trims have Bluetooth and a Wi-Fi hotspot. You’ll find four speakers in the S, 10 speakers in the SL, and six speakers in the other three trims. When they’re optioned with the PRO Premium Package, the PRO-X and PRO-4X will get navigation. They’re also eligible for the Fender Audio Package to give them the same top-quality 10-speaker Fender sound system that the SL gets standard.
