2026 Nissan Leaf Preview
2026 Nissan Leaf Preview
When you hear the phrase “full redesign,” it’s always exciting, but even more so when there’s also the promise of four never-before-seen features? That’s about to happen with the 2026 Nissan Leaf. The new generation of one of America’s best-selling EVs will soon be back with 3-D holographic taillights, a dimming panoramic roof with heat shielding, a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port with Plug & Charge functionality, and a new 3-in-1 electric powertrain that carries a compact integrated motor, inverter, and reducer. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
Nissan is also adding at least 10 new-to-Leaf features that range from aesthetic to the latest automotive tech, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 3-D Intelligent Around View Monitor, Invisible Hood View and Front Wide View camera angles, liquid cooled lithium-ion batteries, and flush exterior door handles. Among the available all-new amenities will be ambient interior lighting with 64 color settings, Bose Personal Plus premium audio, Google Built-in infotainment, dual 14.3-inch displays, and 19-inch wheels. The new-look Leaf will also have an active shutter grille, new wheel treatments and low-rolling resistance tires, and a fastback silhouette, while the interior will employ a minimalistic design concept that’s both thoughtful and spacious.
Trims, Performance, and Range
The ‘26 Leaf will be made in trim packages called S, S+, SV+, and Platinum+. The S is slated to have a 130 kW electric motor and a 52 kWh lithium-ion battery that should produce 174 horsepower and 254 lb.-ft. of torque, while the higher trims will have a 160 kW electric motor and 75 kWh lithium-ion battery (expected output: 214 horsepower and 261 lb.-ft. of torque). The estimated efficiency ratings will vary depending on the trim. As of this writing, the ratings for the S weren’t available, with the others as follows: 131 MPGe city, 111 MPGe highway, and 303-mile range for the S+; 123 MPGe city, 105 MPGe highway, and 288-mile range for the SV+; and 110 MPGe city, 96 MPGe highway, and 259-mile range for the Platinum+.
All ‘26 Leaf EVs will come with an NACS port, a 7.2 kW onboard charger, and a portable charging cable. Although Nissan has yet to share official charging estimates, they did announce that the all-new Leaf will go from 10 to 80 percent battery life in approximately 35 minutes via DC fast charging. As mentioned, Plug & Charge capability will be part of the redesign, allowing owners to recharge their vehicle at any compatible charging station without need of an RFID card, payment card, or third-party app.
Standard and Available Features
Although Nissan has yet to release the full equipment lists for the ‘26 Leaf lineup, certain amenities and equipment have been disclosed. The S will have power side mirrors, LED exterior lighting (automatic headlights/daytime running lights/taillights), Nissan Intelligent Key, a TailorFit steering wheel, automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch instrumentation display, white ambient cabin lighting, two front USB ports, a 12-volt power outlet, and 18-inch steel wheels with aero covers and Yokohama AVID GT tires. The S+ is expected to echo these offerings while differentiating itself with the stronger powertrain.
Confirmed features for the SV+ include power side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, a wireless phone charging pad, a 14.3-inch instrumentation display, two rear USB ports, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and a Divide-N-Hide cargo system, which allows owners to customize the rear cargo area with a series of adjustable dividers and shelves. The Platinum+ will come with a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, multicolor ambient cabin lighting, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, a dimming panoramic roof with heat shielding, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a motion-activated power liftgate, roof rails, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S tires, and heated power side mirrors with memory and integrated LED turn signals.
Driver-Assist Tech
Look for the ‘26 Leaf to be a segment leader in terms of safety, as the whole lineup will have Nissan Safety Shield 360 and driver-assist technologies. The standard suite consists of high beam assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot warning. Every trim is also expected to receive ProPilot Assist, predictive forward collision warning, lane keep assist and lane departure prevention, driver attention alert, rear sonar sensors, blind spot intervention, traffic sign recognition, and rear door alert. Plus, the 3-D Intelligent Around-View Monitor will debut two model-first angles: Front Wide View and Invisible Hood View, which allows the driver to virtually “see through” what’s directly in front (and beneath) the EV. The Platinum+ will get front sonar sensors as well.
Infotainment
The S and S+ will both pair a four-speaker audio system with a 12.3-inch color touchscreen and come with wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa Built-in, SiriusXM with 360L, Bluetooth connectivity, and a hands-free text messaging assistant. NissanConnect telematics will be included as well, giving access to cloud-based networks that provide owners with optimized navigation, remote capabilities, enhanced emergency and security services, over-the-air software updates, vehicle health monitoring, and more infotainment and connectivity options.
The two higher trims will move up to a 14.3-inch color touchscreen and Google Built-in. The SV+ will have the same audio system as the lower trims but with six speakers, while the top-level Platinum+ is upgraded to a Bose Personal Plus setup with 10 speakers.
