Your Guide to Maximizing Fuel Efficiency in Fredericksburg, VA
Regardless if you’re in Fredericksburg or traveling away from it, it’s likely that you’re aware of how gas prices go through certain periods of seemingly unpredictable fluctuations. Whether the prices are reasonable or relatively high, it never hurts to learn about how to maximize your vehicle’s fuel efficiency to save yourself some time and money. You’ll learn tons of valuable information from this timeless guide that we of Pohanka Nissan of Fredericksburg have created!
Keep Up With Regular Maintenance
One of the easiest ways to maximize fuel efficiency is to stay current on routine maintenance. A well-tuned engine performs at its peak, which means less fuel wasted. For drivers of the Rogue or Murano, this means regular oil changes using the manufacturer-recommended grade, timely air filter replacements, and spark plug inspections. Dirty filters and worn plugs force your engine to work harder, and that extra effort comes directly at the gas pump. Tire pressure is another often-overlooked factor. Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance, which costs you fuel. Check your tires monthly and keep them inflated to the levels specified in your Owner's Manual. This tip applies equally to a sporty Sentra commuter and a capable Frontier truck driver.
Adopt Smarter Driving Habits
How you cruise through the Blue and Grey Parkway matters just as much as what Nissan model you drive, which we have plenty of at our location. Aggressive acceleration and hard braking are among the biggest fuel-wasters on the road. Instead, accelerate gradually and anticipate stops early so you can coast to a deceleration rather than slamming the brakes. This smooth driving style is especially effective in the Nissan Versa, where its efficient engine rewards gentle driving with impressive mileage. Highway drivers should take advantage of cruise control whenever possible. Maintaining a steady speed reduces the constant throttle adjustments that burn excess fuel. ARIYA and LEAF drivers already benefit from cutting-edge EV energy management systems, but even these electric and hybrid models benefit from consistent, calm driving behavior.
Reduce Unnecessary Load and Drag
Extra weight and wind resistance quietly drain your car’s fuel economy. Remove roof racks, cargo carriers, or bike mounts when they're not in use, as these accessories create aerodynamic drag that forces the engine to work overtime. Likewise, clearing out heavy, unnecessary items from your trunk can make a meaningful difference over time, particularly for Pathfinder and Armada owners who frequently load up for weekend adventures to the City Dock Park.
Embrace Nissan's Fuel-Saving Technology
Modern Nissan vehicles come packed with technology designed to help you conserve fuel. Features like Eco mode, available on several models, optimize throttle response and air conditioning usage to improve efficiency. The Nissan Rogue's standard fuel economy ratings are a testament to how far factory engineering has come — but these systems work best when paired with smart habits. “ Avary is the most patient and helpful salesman I have ever worked with. Lots of the things he was talking about were completely confusing to me. Even the electronic options on the truck was explained simply enough that I understood. The financial and sales manager were also clear on the issues. I was totally impressed with my salesman. This young man is exceptional I hope he has a long career ahead. ”

“ I consistently receive excellent service at Pohanka, which is why I keep coming back. I truly appreciate that they offer professional, expert suggestions without any heavy-pressure sales tactics. It makes the entire experience much more comfortable and trustworthy. I feel far more confident bringing my vehicle here rather than a local neighborhood auto shop. I know the technicians at Pohanka have specialized knowledge about my specific Nissan model and are better equipped with advanced tools to ensure it gets the highest quality service possible. ”
“ Great customer service ”
“ Adam was my main contact from Nissian of Fredericksburg. He kept me updated through the whole process. He listened to my concerns about my vehicle to make sure I was heard. Once my vehicle passed all check points, I went to pick up my vehicle and met Adam in person. Adam even went the extra mile in putting gas in my vehicle after it was drove for 84 miles trying to figure out what was wrong. Couldn’t ask for better communication and customer service. In the near future, if I have any problems, I will come back to Nissian of Frericksburg for Adam! ”
“ Great service as always..Adam was friendly and very professional. I was early for my state inspection appointment and took me right away. I was notified by text that I passed inspection and was notified on areas that should need attention soon. I was given the option to have the services done while my Pathfinder was already in the shop or have them done at a later date… no pressure! I was out of there in about 45 minutes. Ask for Adam when you make your appointment! ”
“ Prompt service ”
“ Everything was outstanding, great service! ”

“ Service Department only Purchased my 2021 Toyota Highlander through them about 2 years ago - the sale wasn’t great, hidden prices, including a limited lifetime warranty that we were sure was bologna. In February 2026 we started hearing a whining sound in the transmission. Was told by Toyota that it needed to be replaced. Was told by warranty people it needed to be done by Pohanka. Slightly frustrated I contacted Service and got Adam Z on the phone, and from the moment I spoke to him the first time, I felt like I was his only customer. He was very attentive, very responsive, understanding of our situation, and our frustrations. He was nonstop listening and so very helpful! It couldn’t have been a better experience! So very thankful we got ahold to Adam that day! ”
“ Adam assisted me with the oil service and as always, he provided great customer service! ”

“ Bobby Able was marvelous about getting my 25 Rogue fixed. He makes me want to keep dealing with Pohanka from now on. Thanks again! ”

“ The customer service is awesome , and amazing thing is customer get the registration, number plate there instead of going to DMV . Wow ”

Would highly recommend! Adam was my representative and he gave top- notch service! ”

“ I wouldn’t buy a car from them but their service center is friendly and communication is great. Pretty decent pricing with coupons. ”
“ We are very happy that the new engine solved the problems our car was having. ”
“ Always willing to do what is asked and always recommending what needs to or should be done. ”
“ Not a good experience replacing assembly of a front headlight. Technician did not mount it correctly. Does not sit flush and old headlight did. I question and they tried to get it right but did not happen. Personnel told me they did everything they could to fix the issue. Not satisfied. ”
“ I strongly advise customers to carefully verify any claims regarding the “lifetime limited warranty,” (its a scam )as my experience was that the information provided was inconsistent and misleading. During the sales process, there was significant pressure for the “Pohanka Total Protection” package, which included services such as lifetime inspections, car washes, and the Elo GPS system. ( complete fraud) Prior to the newer FTC guidelines, these products appeared to be incorporated into the vehicle pricing upfront rather than being clearly disclosed as optional add-ons. Since the guideline changes, the presentation of these products has changed, but the transparency remains concerning. Consumers should thoroughly review all documentation, request a complete itemized breakdown of fees and products, and ensure they fully understand what is the details before completing a purchase. ”
“ I had a very disappointing experience at Pohanka Nissan today. I was actively in the middle of speaking with a manager and salesman when an employee named Darlene walked directly in front of me to interrupt the conversation. Both men politely told her to hold on because they were helping me first, but instead of being professional, she looked back and forth between me and them and said, “Today isn’t the damn day, I was working with y’all first.” What shocked me most was that she WORKS there. The manager and salesman themselves were both very kind and respectful, and I want to make that clear because this review is not about them. However, that interaction completely changed the atmosphere and left such a bad taste in my mouth that I ended up walking out and deciding not to continue doing business there. I understand stressful days happen, but speaking that way in front of customers is incredibly unprofessional and reflects poorly on the dealership as a whole. ”
“ My car's transmission recently died and it was towed to a local shop. They informed me that they didn't have the programming equipment required to complete this repair and suggested I get it towed to Pohanka, so I did. I was told it would take a few days for the parts to arrive, and that my car would be ready on Tuesday (it was towed to them on Fri). I agreed and thanked them for helping me out. Tuesday came, and I had to call them just to be told that it would be ready Wednesday instead. Fine, no big deal. I decided to call them Wednesday afternoon to check if the car is ready for pickup - now it won't be ready until Friday, and there's some additional repairs to be made. Sure. Car's not getting younger. I agreed to the additional repairs and charges. The day finally came. I got the call and was informed that the repairs are complete and their test drive went well. The bill was astronomical, but at least I had a working car again. After paying over $7000, Bobby proceeded to make small talk with me, making sure to humble-brag about how he gifted all of his children homes of their own. Strange thing to bring up to a customer who's down on their luck, I know. Imagine what was going through my mind while this man was robbing me blind while simultaneously bragging about his wealth to my face. The entire interaction was incredibly pretentious and off-putting. I couldn't wait to get home and wash my hands. 3/4 into the hour-long drive home, the car broke down again. To be specific: the car broke down in the exact same fashion as the initial breakdown that started this nightmare - transmission failure. They never fixed my car. I questioned whether they did anything at all. Bobby was quick to try and placate me by reiterating that it wasn't their tech's fault, as they have "Master" credentials. A lot of good that "Mastery" did for me... The car never made it home and had to get towed back. I spent thousands of dollars and I still didn't have a working car. They set me up with a loaner vehicle for my trouble. Fast forward another week. I picked up my car after they replaced their faulty transmission. Minutes into my drive home I get a tire pressure light on the dash. I figured it was just a tire running a little low, so I drove home. I check the tires - all good. So I plug in my OBD code reader. My 3/4 tire pressure sensors are now "N/A". Mind you, I had no issues with these sensors until their "Master Technicians" did God knows what to my car. I called them the next day and took it back. Good news! It was just a 5-minute fix, and they just needed to reprogram those sensors, no extra charge. Great! They do the deed and I leave. <10 minutes into my hour-long drive, that tire light comes back on. I turn around. It's an extra thousand dollars to fix this. That's right... They charged me for the sensors THEY broke in THEIR garage. These sensors worked until their "Master Technicians" got under the hood of my vehicle. Don't come here. Don't even pull your vehicle onto their property. Don't let them touch your car. Don't give them your money. Please go literally anywhere else. Don't make the same mistake I did. I went in to get my transmission changed and it took 4 trips, 2 on-highway vehicle breakdowns, 2 tows, and eight thousand dollars after everything was said and done. These people screwed me over in a big way. They're going to screw you too. Dealerships like these deserve to go extinct. I would rather walk my 25 mile commute to work than ever deal with these pretentious con-men again. Save yourself the money and trouble and just stay away. (They incentivize customers to leave 5-star reviews w/ gift cards, raffle/giveaway entries and other material rewards, so that's why you see all of these 5-star reviews that all follow a very similar template to one another. I know this bc they tried this w/ us last year when we brought in our other car for a minor recall. Their good reputation re: reviews is inflated/artificial.) 5/21 - called # from comment, was sent to voicemail. Seriously?? 5/27 & 5/29- Called again. Same thing. ”
“ I cannot recommend this business. The overall operation was disorganized, and both the Sales Manager and General Manager came across as unprofessional and lacking the necessary knowledge. My concerns were dismissed, and no real effort was made to resolve them despite the time I invested. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. ”
“ Ignore the wishes of former customers in the name of their relentless solicitation ”
“ Would nissan mind telling me where the other 20 something thousand miles are if the previous owner was only a renter and only had the car for 2 years driving 18 and some thousand miles? Exeter tried telling me to go back to the dealership even though I’m under contract but somehow I am under amount financed. Which then voids a financial contract right? Not to mention the car I got when a rental car is brought back that is when damages are reported along with the mileage which was 04/19/2021, so where did the mileage come from? Says the previous owner was a renter and the person had the car for 2 years and 10 months yet the reported damage was 04/19/2021. Even if so where did the missing Miles go? Because carfax reports are reported after the cars are returned so where are the missing miles in contract on the odometer reading? No way the previous renter owner would have had the car 2 years because the versa is a 2021. Not to mention if the dealership has a carfax buy back guarantee meaning if anything especially odometer is false in the contract they have to buy the car back from the financial company I’m currently financing through. Even has the Nissan address and everything in file. Code title USC 1605 not to mention Exeter said over the phone that they could send title and sign something over with out me signing anything which would also be without my permission and that is also a illegal statement which does breach contract and void anything waiving legal rights. I sent my complaint to protection bureau. Reach out to Exeter for my settlement offer that I think is fair. So the owner is a part of the sales team on contract? Also could you please provide information regarding Carmax? Another thing is someone at a different Nissan dealership asked if I bought the versa from them, so something tells me there is missing information that I do not know. Because last time I checked the previous person who had the Nissan was a renter which opens up a bunch of other questions as well. Why would a employee at a different dealership need to ask if I bought a car from them or a different dealership especially when the previous person was a owner and I got the car from this dealership? I think there is also more information that Nissan is hiding that I am unaware of that I have a right to know. I am not gonna say what dealership or person that asked that question. ”
“ Going into the dealership I was definitely nervous; but working with Darlene made my worries go away. She was a joy to work with and very professional. She and her amazing coworkers definitely need a 100/100 rating the way they all worked diligently together to make my dream car idea come true. I appreciate all of you guys for doing such an amazing job. ”
