Making the decision to buy a new Nissan Rogue is easy to do. This popular compact crossover SUV has been a leading contender on the market since its release with the 2008 model. Currently in its second generation, the 2018 Rogue received a thoughtful update compared to the 2017 model year. Today’s SUV shoppers also can opt for the 2018.5 Rogue Sport. The Sport was originally introduced in the 2017 model year. While its name makes it sound like a trim level for the Rogue, the Rogue Sport is actually a unique model with its own set of trims. Now that you understand that the Rogue and Rogue Sport are different vehicles, you may be wondering which one is a preferred option for you to take home.

Comfort

The exterior design of the 2018 Rogue is very similar that of the 2018.5 Rogue Sport. The primary aesthetic difference is in the size of the vehicles. The Rogue Sport is a smaller version of the Rogue. In fact, the Rogue Sport is more than a foot shorter in length and more than 6 inches shorter in height. This impacts the spaciousness of the interior. The Rogue had more than 16 cubic feet of additional space in the interior than the Rogue Sport has, and this includes combined passenger and cargo space. For those who are looking for a more spacious interior, the Rogue is a clear winner. However, many of today’s SUV shoppers want the experience of driving an SUV without the large size of one.

Performance

The Rogue Sport is designed to be a scaled-down version of the Rogue, and this extends to performance capabilities as well. The base trim level for the 2018.5 Rogue Sport is equipped with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower. It comes with all-wheel drive, direct fuel injection and an automatic CVT with Xtronic technology. The base trim level for the 2018 Rogue comes with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 171 horsepower. It has the same transmission and drivetrain option, but it comes with sequential fuel injection.

Value

It is important to note that the Rogue and Rogue Sport are both available in various trim levels and with many different individual options and packages that can affect the price. At the base price, however, the Rogue is priced slightly more than the Rogue Sport. As an SUV buyer, it is important to determine if the additional interior space and power of the Rogue is worth paying this higher price. Because each driver has unique needs for power and space, this is an individual decision.

It is challenging to accurately determine whether the Rogue or Rogue Sport is a better option without test driving both models. During your test drive visit at our Nissan dealership in Fredericksburg, VA, you will also be able to compare the trim levels for each model. Make plans to visit the dealership soon so that you can make an informed auto-buying decision.
