Style and spaciousness are hallmarks of the 2018 Nissan Murano. Many have called it adult-oriented with its lounge-like atmosphere. The 2018 Nissan Rogue, on the other hand, has hallmarks such as organization, family-friendly space, and real utility. How do they compare when measured side by side? Let’s take a look.

Performance

The Murano just needs one powertrain. A rousing V6 delivers 260 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque. Nissans benefit from a next-generation continuously variable transmission. Speed-sensitive power steering contributes to the carlike handling of the Rogue and Murano. Shorter, the Rogue claims a tighter turning circle. If your emphasis is on fuel efficiency, you’ll want to start with the 2018 Nissan Rogue. The clever engine kicks out 170 horsepower, but it still earns 33 mpg highway. Other choices include the Rogue Hybrid and the 144-horsepower Rogue Sport.

Appearance

The Murano exterior is sleek, its greenhouse is large, and the interior is marked by an open layout and airy feel. High seating positions, a floating dash and a low console help you see out. The expansive backseat is inviting to adults. A panoramic sunroof can add to the spacious feeling. Nissan created zero gravity seats for the Murano. These are now well-known for their fatigue-fighting qualities. 2018 editions have a three-cushion rear bench to provide more comfort to the backseat passengers. If you want luxuries, the Murano Platinum lets you choose power-return seatbacks and a power-adjusting steering wheel in a leather-clad cabin.

Over time, the Nissan Rogue has taken on many aspects of the Murano’s personality. V-motion exterior design contributes to curb appeal. A floating dash and other sculpted aspects contribute to a feeling of spaciousness in the cabin. Anti-gravity seats relieve fatigue. Special sporty touches include its D-shaped steering wheel. With two rows, passenger space is rated at 105.8 cubic feet. You can also add a third row for carpools and big families. The standard cargo hold includes Divide-n-Hide compartments. The EX Flex seats let you fold the front passenger seat as well as the other rows. The Rogue menu isn’t as extensive as the Murano’s, but it does include a power liftgate and a heated steering wheel. The high-tech cockpit is complemented by the NissanConnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay.

Safety

Each year Nissans are becoming smarter. Murano menus recently picked up a drowsiness driver monitor. Rogues caught up with the Murano, adding a lane departure system. Both have Nissan’s advanced forward collision system with predictive capability. This available system warns drivers when it detects stopping traffic more than one car ahead. A blind spot monitor helps with side swipe dangers. The standard rearview camera on both SUVs can be partnered with a rear cross-traffic alert. A SurroundView camera includes Nissan’s exclusive Moving Object Detection. ProPilot Assist combines lane assistance and Adaptive Cruise Control.
