Nissan has proudly offered the compact Sentra and mid-size Altima for years, and the successful history of these two models need not be explained here. Suffice it to say that both the Sentra and Altima have always been affordable, have always depreciated slowly, and have always provided a comfortable ride. The newest versions of these sedans keep up with the ever-changing high-tech times, and they incorporate the latest in safety and security systems.

Engine Choices

The base engine under the hood of the 2018 Nissan Sentra is a 1.8L engine rated at 124 horsepower. It's peppy enough, but if you need more giddy-up, you can choose the SR Turbo version. It comes with a turbocharged 1.6L engine that produces a total of 188 horsepower. This engine can be mated to your choice of a six-speed manual or CVT transmission. The 2018 Nissan Altima is powered by your choice of a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with a 179-horsepower output or a larger 3.5L V6 rated at 270 horsepower. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Interior

Neither the 2018 Nissan Sentra or the 2018 Altima have received any major upgrade for 2018, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nissan sedans tend toward functionality and practicality rather than lavish appointing to the interior or high-tech gizmos that aren't really all that important. The Sentra base S trim comes with air conditioning, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, and a 5-inch central screen display. Bluetooth is included on the base trim. The uplevel SV trim gets you a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, and satellite radio. The SV and SR trims can be purchased with heated front seats, a navigation system, and a sunroof. The 2017 Nissan Altima base trim comes with the same basic features as the compact Sentra, but the uplevel trims add on leather upholstery, heated front seats, paddle shifters, and a 7-inch screen display.

Safety Features

Both the 2018 Nissan Sentra and Altima come with antilock brakes, stability control, and a full set of front and rear airbags. All 2018 Sentra trims have a rearview camera, and the automatic emergency braking system is now standard even on the base S trim. The SL trim includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard. The 2018 Nissan Altima also includes the rearview camera and automatic emergency braking system as standard. The 2.5 V and above trims add on blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and the 3.5 SL comes with front and rear parking sensors as well as the NissanConnect services with emergency telematics.

The 2018 Nissan Sentra and Altima models have retained their functional design and performance, so if you don't need a lightning-fast performance car, you will want to check out these two models.
