The 2018 Nissan Armada brings a lot to the table despite its moderate price. It's a great family hauler, and although it has three rows, it's nimble on the off-roads as well as on the highway. A chief rival in this segment is the Ford Expedition. It comes with an impressive list of standard convenience features, but the uplevel trims are quite pricey. It can't compete with the Armada in terms of robust engine power, and its interior is a bit cluttered. It's worth giving the 2018 Armada a close look because it actually outshines the Expedition in several key areas.

V8 Engine Power

The 2018 Nissan Armada is fitted with a powerful engine that won't disappoint. It outdoes the Expedition in these areas:

  • • V8 engine versus a V6
  • • 5.6L displacement versus 3.5L displacement on the Expedition
  • • Better Acceleration

The 2018 Nissan Armada is powered by a V8 engine that has better response than what is experienced with the 2018 Ford Expedition. The 390 horsepower output surpasses the Expedition as well, although it should be mentioned that the Expedition Platinum trim gets a moderate increase in power, about 400 horsepower total. Fuel efficiency suffers on this trim, however. The Armada accelerates from a full stop to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds, excellent for such a heavy machine.

Standard Safety Systems

The 2018 Nissan Armada SL trim comes with such standard safety features as:

  • • Rain-sensing wipers
  • • Enhanced 360-degree top-down camera
  • • Moving object detection and warning

The 2018 Ford Expedition must be purchased with the 202A package on the lower trims in order for the buyer to get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Also, the Expedition offers some of the most desired safety systems as stand-alone options only. These include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and forward collision warning. These aren't even standard on upper trims. The 2018 Nissan Armada Premium package isn't expensive, and it can be added to the mid-level SL trim. With this, buyers get adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

High-Tech

Until recently, the Ford Expedition came out ahead in this category. However, for 2018, the Nissan Armada now comes with standard:

  • • Power-adjustable heated front seats
  • • Bluetooth connectivity
  • • Full navigation
  • • An 8-inch screen display
  • • A 13-speaker Bose audio system

Other standard features include satellite and HD radio, two USB media inputs, and two USB charge ports. The standard stereo system on the Ford Expedition is an inferior nine-speaker setup, and the base trim doesn't come with the lauded Sync 3 system. The NissanConnect telematics service is now standard on all trims of the Armada, something that buyers should be aware of.
