Bigger than the HR-V, the Rogue's affordable pricing often causes shoppers to compare the two. In this review, we'll take a look at the key factors that may affect your decision.

Performance and Fuel Economy

With less room aboard the HR-V, it can make do with an engine that only produces 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. U.S. News and World Report has written that this engine can be slow to enter busy highway traffic. On the other hand, the Rogue has a more substantial engine. Output is 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain is sure to install confidence in the driver. As for fuel economy, the smaller HR-V earns 34 mpg highway, but the larger Rogue holds its own, earning 33 mpg highway.

Semi-Autonomous Driving

If you want less stress on your daily drive, intelligent cruise control has become a common menu item, but you will only find it on the Rogue, not the HR-V. Exclusive to the Rogue and to Nissan, the ProPilot allows the driver to simply monitor travel. Semi-autonomous, it steers, brakes, accelerates and decelerates to match traffic patterns. It isn't a self-driving car, but it comes much closer than you can get with the HR-V or any other affordable 2018 crossover.

Size and Spaciousness

The HR-V is about 13 inches shorter than the Rogue. It has 101 cu.ft. of passenger space while the Rogue has 105 cu.ft. of space. The Rogue also comes with Nissan-exclusive EZ Flex seats. These slide on a track, allowing passengers to claim maximum legroom when there's no cargo aboard. On the dash, Nissan places a seven-inch touch display with Apple Auto and Android Auto. An HR-V has a standard five-inch LCD display, and advanced connectivity is offered on higher editions. The Rogue's 39-cu.ft. of cargo space is best-in-class. The HR-V hold measures 24 cu.ft. If you love organization, you'll appreciate all of the functions of the Rogue's exclusive Divide-n-Hide system.

Advanced Safety Technology

Both Honda and Nissan have a good safety record, and either SUV can be relied upon for protections in an accident. However, Nissan is really pulling ahead with crash avoidance features. The Rogue has a standard forward collision system with an exclusive predictive feature. It also has offers a surround view camera with moving object detection. Furthermore, the Rogue menu includes a lane departure assist. Standard on every edition, a blind spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic monitor help the Rogue driver avoid side swipes. To help the Nissan driver stay aware of these many functions, the Rogue has an Advanced Drive Assist screen behind the steering wheel. Other than a rearview camera, Honda has only one crash avoidance feature for the HR-V. It is a blind spot monitor for the passenger-side of the vehicle.
